A Louisiana woman who has broken Guinness World Records for the largest afro three different times in the past 13 years says she will continue breaking records to convey the beauty of natural hair.
Afro – a style in which curly hair is cut in such a way that it is styled in a rounded shape.
Aevin Dugas told Guinness World Records that he decided to covet the record because some cultures have historically associated straight hair with beauty.
The afro model's record – which at Aevin is more than 25cm long and 26cm wide – requires “frequent haircuts and styling regimes” to maintain, according to Guinness.
In her interview with Guinness, Aevin said she loves how her distinctive hair helps her "stand out in a room full of people" and is a characteristic that everyone notices. Afro hair for people of color is a characteristic that represents identity and pride.
