Whether you're taking a shower that includes every possible step of self-care, or even just taking a quick, simple shower, there's one part of the body that most of us forget about. And according to dermatologist Dr. Aanand Geria, that part is behind the ears .
Dr. Geria – dermatologist and clinical lecturer explains:
“The area behind the ears is often neglected in our daily hygiene routine.” But that doesn't mean we should continue to ignore it. “If not cleaned regularly, it can create unpleasant odors, irritation, clogged pores, and even infections,” he adds.
This is because the area is warm, often covered by hair or glasses, and has very little air circulation – ideal conditions for bacteria that cause skin problems. Although it is no more "at risk" than other parts of the body, the fact that it is often forgotten makes it more susceptible to contamination and irritation.
How to clean it properly (and quickly):
The good news? Cleaning is simple: a quick wash with soap and water every day is enough.
“I recommend washing the area behind the ears every day, just like the face and other parts of the body,” says Dr. Geria.
"If you sweat a lot, use glasses or hair products - so, like most of us - clean this area regularly to avoid dirt buildup and irritation."
To get into the corners of the area, a mild body wash and a light massage with your fingers or a sponge are enough.
PS: Always check if the cleanser you use suits your skin type. Even if the area is small, the care should be complete. Now, next time you're in the shower, don't forget that corner behind your ears. It really makes a difference.
