When you first hear about the "skin pricking" technique it sounds like plastic surgery or let's say a new facial injection technique. In fact, according to dermatologists, it is a simple procedure that reduces the excess skin under the eyes so that you look younger and fresher in your portrait.
Ok, so what is "skin pricking"? A piece of skin is removed from the eyelids along the lash line. Only the skin is removed, not the muscle or fat of the eye area,” explains Melissa Doft, plastic surgeon. This technique got its name precisely because of the nature of the intervention, which is more like a bite than a real surgery.
Plastic surgeon Julius Few compares it to the work of a tailor. "Think of a dress or a pair of pants that are too baggy and need a bit of tapering. By tightening the skin along the lash line, we surgeons can then cut away the excess layer with surgical scissors. The same as in the case of adjusting clothes at the tailor's," he says.
Where does the "skin pricking" technique differ from blepharoplasty? During blepharoplasty, the intervention is done up to the muscle and fat of the eyelids, while with "skin pricking" only a very small part of the skin surface is removed.
For which patients "skin pricking" is not recommended?
If you have large bags under your eyes from excess fat or sagging skin, blepharoplasty is a better option. But if you don't have less wrinkled and sagging skin, the nicking technique that only removes excess skin may be an ideal choice.
