The measure that will make it mandatory to wear the mask on the streets starting the next day (Thursday, October 15) was a recommendation of the World Health Organization. In an interview for TV Klan, the WHO representative in Albania, Dr. Bettina Menne, said the mask will curb the spread of Covid-19.
"We are happy to see that the government has seriously approved something that the WHO has been asking for for more than 5 months: the use of masks in public spaces. The virus has the potential to cause great damage if we do not take all necessary actions to stop its spread. "No, no, the mask has no negative consequences."
As for imposing total blockade, she said wearing the mask will avoid closing the place.
"People know it has to be used everywhere and always. This is an important step and will most likely prevent us from closing. The situation is different and of course it is being kept under control and it is being seen which issues will be implemented in Europe and the Balkans. But it is known that the closure did not serve anyone. Partial blockades are being implemented almost everywhere in Europe, where the situation has met critical levels . "We are aware of the public's fatigue in pursuing preventive measures."
Rapid tests for Covid-19 are being used in many countries and the WHO requires that they be applied in Albania as well.
