Filming for the sixth season of Peaky Blinders has begun and is taking place recently in Bolton. Steven Knight, the creator of the series announced in January that this will be the last season, but also hinted that "the story can continue in another form".
In a statement to Birmingham Live, Knight hinted that the "next chapter" in the Peaky Blinders saga could be played even without the involvement of Tommy Shelby.
Irish actor Cilian Murphy has the protagonist role in the crime drama series that started in 2013.
"In the form that the series is currently, it is absolutely impossible for it to function without Cillian," Knight said.
But then he added:
"If a development happens and events progress, who knows? There may be 'worlds' that are part of Peaky Blinders but that relate to someone else."
Knight again stressed that "after the end of the series, the story will continue in another form."
"The story of Small Heath and the Shelby family will continue. It will continue until ..."
