Charlie Johnson, a nurse from Arkansas, US state, was diagnosed with breast cancer last April, according to People. She and her husband decided to photograph their encounter with cancer as a way to document the difficult journey.
To make a photo set, they went to a hill in the suburbs where Charlie would pose next to her husband and other family members. But photographer Mandy Parks advised something different.
?We started talking about this photo set and I thought, 'Why not be the one who removes hair? Why be cancer? '?Parks said. Charlie had the same vision in mind.
"If women who suffer from such challenges are afraid and worried about losing their hair and seeing these pictures feel powerful and think they can do it, then we have achieved our goal," Johnson said.
Shortly after Mandy posted the photos on social media, there were many people commenting and talking openly about their journey against cancer.
Someone wrote: "I desperately needed Charlie Johnson. Yesterday I was not feeling well and the wig was adding to my headache, so I took it off. I wanted to crawl down my desktop so people wouldn't see me. I was afraid they would prejudge me because of my appearance. I felt ashamed. Thank you Charlie for introducing me to another perspective. ?
