Sources say that the clash between Prince William and Prince Harry started much earlier than the public thinks and that it all has to do with Princess Diana's engagement ring.

Prince William requested the ring after Diana's death and later got engaged to Kate Middleton with it. But according to #ShuterScoop, Harry regrets letting William take the symbolic ring.
“Harry later realized that the ring represented more than just a piece of jewelry, it symbolized Diana, her legacy, and all the emotional significance,” says a source. “He even said that William should compensate him for half of its $75,000 value. That didn’t go down well.”
A senior palace employee adds:
"If you trace the conflict back to its origins, it's the ring. That's where everything broke, silently."

Harry also talked about the ring in his book "Spare":
"The newspapers wrote embellished stories about how I realized that Willy and Kate were perfect for each other, and that's why I decided to give Willy the ring I had inherited from my mother, that legendary sapphire."
“A sweet brotherly moment, a moment that connected the three of us and completely untrue,” he writes. “I didn’t give the ring to Willy, because it was never mine to give to him. He had it after Mom died, and I was perfectly happy to let it go.”
