Going to bed looking like a horror movie character in the hopes of waking up like a star - this is the concept that's going crazy on social media!
If you've seen "morning shed" videos on TikTok, then you know what they're all about: creators show up with their faces covered in acne-fighting paste, giant masks, chin-lifting strips, and look like they've stepped out of a sci-fi movie. Then, in the morning, they take it all off and - voilà! - wake up looking fresh and natural, as if they've slept on rose petals.

But does this trend really work or is it just another internet illusion? Let's find out which products are worth it and which ones could be sabotaging your beauty routine.
Facial masks and acne patches
Most "morning shed" videos start with the creator slowly removing a face mask or acne patches, revealing glowing, hydrated skin.
According to dermatologists, acne patches are really effective, as they help heal and reduce inflammation by absorbing excess oil and protecting the skin from contact with bacteria.
What about face masks? They may not be as innocent as they seem!
“Many skin care products contain active ingredients in concentrations that are only suitable for short-term use,” says dermatologist Angela Casey. In other words, if a mask is recommended for 10-20 minutes, leaving it on overnight may do more harm than good.
"Many of these masks contain ingredients that can be too aggressive for the skin when used for a long time, leading to dryness, irritation, redness and even eczema," warns dermatologist Helen He.
So what should you remember? Always read the product instructions and don't be fooled by the results of online influencers. What gives them a perfect glow, may give you an acne breakout!
