People infected with the Delta variant of the coronavirus can transmit the disease 2 days before they show the first symptoms!
At least this is the conclusion of the latest study, published in Nature . Pre-symptomatic transmission was also a feature of previous variants, but according to this study if the gap between the positive test and the first sensations was only 0.8 days, with Delta it is 1.8 days.
As a result, 3/4 of Delta infections occur during the stage when symptoms have not yet appeared.
Delta's transmissibility is greater and although the vaccine is effective, the spread of this variant remains a concern. So far 90% of cases in the US are infected with Delta, a fact which adds to the urgent need to be vaccinated.
Recent studies suggest that getting the vaccine is important not only for a person's personal health but also for limiting the spread of the disease. In addition to the vaccine, the current situation requires the return of masks to public and populated areas.
