The American company Pfizer, which has produced one of the most effective vaccines against Covid, announced today that it has produced a pill against the severe symptoms of Covid.
The experimental Paxlovid antiviral pill is also effective against the Omicron variant which is rapidly spreading worldwide, the company announced, referring to laboratory testing.
In clinical trials, Paxlovid was almost 90% effective in preventing hospitalization and death in high-risk patients, according to Pfizer.
These results prompted the company to seek authorization from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the pill to become the first widely available oral drug to fight the coronavirus.
The UK last month approved the Molnupiravir pill manufactured to be used in the elderly and at-risk patients, but it has not been approved in the US due to safety concerns.
