Danish postal service stops delivering letters after 400 years
The postal service in Denmark will deliver its last letter on December 30, ending a tradition that has been around for over 400 years.
The decision was announced earlier this year by PostNord, the postal company created in 2009 after the merger of the Swedish and Danish postal services. According to the official announcement, PostNord will cut around 1,500 jobs in Denmark and remove around 1,500 red mailboxes from public spaces.
The company justifies this decision with the increasing digitalization of Danish society, describing Denmark as “one of the most digitalized countries in the world.” According to PostNord, demand for letter delivery has fallen significantly, while online shopping and parcel deliveries have steadily increased.

At least nine people have been killed and 10 others injured in a shooting near Johannesburg, South Africa, police say.
The serious incident occurred at around 1:00 am on Sunday morning, at a tavern in Bekkersdal, a suburban area southwest of the city. According to police, the attack was carried out by about 12 unidentified people.
In an official response on the social network X, the police announced that the perpetrators opened fire on the tavern's customers and continued to shoot in an uncontrolled manner even while leaving the scene.
EU plans to lend Ukraine 90 billion euros over the next two years
The European Union has reached an agreement to provide Ukraine with 90 billion euros in debt, through a joint borrowing mechanism, aimed at supporting Kiev in the face of its ongoing war against Russia.
The decision was made during a crucial summit of European leaders this week, where the option of using frozen Russian assets was definitively ruled out, being considered a solution with high legal and financial risk.
According to the agreement, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic have decided to stay outside the scheme, not participating in the joint debt mechanism.
The EU will borrow on international financial markets on behalf of member states and the funds will be provided to Ukraine gradually, subject to meeting set conditions.
