The collapsed part of the Torre dei Conti occurred on Monday morning during restoration work near the Imperial Forums, where firefighters rescued four workers, while another was trapped under the rubble.
The tower, built in 1238 by Pope Innocent III and located near the Colosseum and Roman Forum in the historic center of Rome, was undergoing restoration funded by Italy's National Reconstruction and Sustainability Plan when the collapse occurred at around 11:30 a.m.
The Rome Fire Department sent three operational teams, two ladder trucks and special units to the scene. The three workers who were trapped at the top of the tower were evacuated through a window using ladder trucks, while the fourth worker was pulled out of the structure.
Ukraine receives Patriot air defense systems from the US to counter Russian air attacks
Ukraine has received more US-made Patriot air defense systems to help defend against daily Russian air strikes, President Volodymyr Zelensky said, after Russian drones killed one person and wounded five others in a recent overnight attack.
"Yes, more Patriot systems are now in Ukraine and have been put into operation," Zelenskyy wrote in a social media post late Sunday.
"Undoubtedly, we need more systems to protect our key infrastructure and cities across our state."
He thanked Germany and its Chancellor Friedrich Merz for providing the systems.

Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken expressed concern over several unidentified drone flights over the weekend near a military base where US nuclear weapons are stored, saying they appeared to be part of an espionage operation.
Francken confirmed that drones had flown in the area near Kleine Brogel air base in northeastern Belgium in two phases during the night of Saturday and Sunday.
The first phase involved "small drones to test the radio frequencies" of the Belgian security services, while later came "large drones to destabilize the area and the people," Francken told public broadcaster RTBF.
