"Si panter i zi", a 2010 song by Genta Ismajli, is going viral around the world for a specific part of it:
The most repeated part of the song that is making the rounds on the internet goes like this:
"Now do it like a black girl," and Genta does a dance that black girls are supposed to do.
"Now do it like a white girl" and we see a hand movement that more closely resembles Beyoncé's in "Single Ladies."
"Now do it like Latin" and Genta does some salsa moves.
"Now do it like an Albanian girl" and the Tropoja dance takes over the stage.
Beyond the enthusiasts that Albanian music is once again crossing borders, the reaction of "foreigners" does not take much to understand that it is not expressing approval for the music or the dance, quite the opposite. Some, although mainly in a joking context, imply that the artist's actions are racist.
One creator imitated Genta's dance exactly and the commentators were all in agreement: "This song should not cross Albanian borders."
Another turned it into a meme , with the caption "Me when people tell me I'm racist." And another even joked that Genta ended racism. "Albania was mentioned, but at what cost," said one.
This Albanian artist says that no one outside of Kosovo was supposed to hear this song that is now a TikTok trend and commenters found it hilarious:
Meanwhile, Genta Ismajli continues to repost others' creations on her personal Instagram, without any added commentary, but it seems that she is also enjoying the attention the song is receiving around the world.
However, commentators didn't spare her for this either and think that the artist is being naive by considering all the videos as praise.
