Quentin Tarantino lists his favorite movies and one in particular surprised us!

As the end of 2025 approaches and the 21st century enters its second quarter, Quentin Tarantino reviewed his favorite films of the last 25 years.

The director, 62, appeared on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast on December 2 to discuss his favorite films with author and screenwriter Bret Easton Ellis, known for the 1991 novel American Psycho.

Tarantino chose a film that some film fans might find surprising as his best film of the century so far: Ridley Scott's war drama Black Hawk Down (2001).

"I liked it when I first saw it, but I think it was so intense that it didn't work for me. I didn't absorb it the way I should have," Tarantino said.

“Black Hawk Down” stars Ewan McGregor, Josh Hartnett, Eric Bana, Tom Sizemore, Jason Isaacs, Tom Hardy, Orlando Bloom and others as part of a group of American soldiers whose helicopter crashes during a crucial battle in the Somali civil war in 1993. (The film won two Oscars in 2002 for Sound and Editing).

Tarantino described “Black Hawk Down” as “the only film that goes all the way to an atmosphere and purpose in the style of “Apocalypse Now,” with all the visual impact and feeling that brings. I watched it again recently; my heart was pounding for the duration of the film. I got that feeling and it didn’t leave me for a moment,” he added.

This film has faced a lot of criticism from cinema fans, sparking numerous debates online, but apparently, for the director of "Pulp Fiction" it is perfect.

Tarantino also listed two much-loved (though not necessarily similar) films as his second and third in the last 25 years: "Toy Story 3," the third film in Pixar's "Toy Story" saga, and Sofia Coppola's 2003 drama "Lost in Translation."

"Those last five minutes tore my heart out, and if I tried to describe the ending, I would start sobbing," he said of "Toy Story 3."

Regarding “Lost in Translation,” Tarantino said:

"I hadn't seen such a girly film in a long time, in the sense of, so well made."

Beyond "Black Hawk Down," "Toy Story 3," and "Lost in Translation," Tarantino also listed these films on his list of the top 10 films of the 21st century so far:

Quentin himself released his latest film in 2019, "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood" with Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie and Leonardo DiCaprio.
