A 13-year-old in Florida has been arrested after using ChatGPT on a school laptop to search for:
"How do I kill my friend in the middle of class?"
The search immediately activated the artificial intelligence surveillance system “ Gaggle ,” which sent an alarm signal to the police officer assigned to campus security.
According to local network NBC EFLA , the security officer managed to identify and detain the student at Southwestern Middle School .
The teenager said it was "just a joke with his friend," but authorities didn't let it go, given the tragic stories of school shootings in the US, such as the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, where 17 people died.
Police arrested the student and took him into custody. Footage is circulating on social media showing the teenager getting out of the police car with handcuffs on his hands.
Authorities have urged parents to monitor how their children use ChatGPT and technology in general. While Gaggle has been praised for its ability to detect troubling behavior in real time, it has also often been criticized for its high number of false alarms, which puts students' privacy at risk.
