Seven years after a sexual assault scandal rocked his career, Kevin Spacey has revealed he is homeless.
“I’m living in hotels, I’m staying in Airbnbs, I’m going wherever there’s work,” the Oscar winner told The Telegraph. “I don’t have a home, that’s what I’m trying to explain.”
He said his financial situation was "not good" after the scandal, which ended with his acquittal on charges brought by four men in the United Kingdom, but stressed that he "never went bankrupt." According to him, "the costs of these seven years have been staggering."
Spacey, who has consistently denied any allegations, said his income was minimal, while his expenses were endless. Of his "cancellation" in Hollywood, he said:
"It's getting through. In strange ways I feel like I'm back where I started, I just go where the work takes me. Everything I have is in storage and hopefully, if things continue to improve, I'll decide where I want to settle down again."
The 66-year-old was accused by more than 30 men, including "Star Trek: Discovery" actor Anthony Rapp, of inappropriate behavior or sexual assault, with the complaints beginning in 2017. Netflix eventually removed Spacey from the hit series "House of Cards," which ended its final season without him.
Spacey was acquitted in July 2023 in a high-profile trial in the United Kingdom and was found not guilty in a 2022 civil lawsuit in New York. According to The Telegraph, he performed this week at a resort in Cyprus as he tries to rebuild his professional life.
During the release of the documentary "Spacey Unmasked" in 2024, the actor again denied any allegations against him, saying he could no longer allow himself to be attacked without basis.
“I take responsibility for my past behavior, but I cannot and will not take responsibility for fabricated or exaggerated stories,” he said. “I have never told anyone that I would help their career if they gave me sexual favors.”
In May of this year, the actor received a career achievement award during an event in Cannes, where he called the last few years "challenging."
