Putin and Trump met in Alaska for the first time in a decade, at a summit that was expected to bring news of a ceasefire in Ukraine, but that did not happen.

The meeting ended without a concrete agreement, although both leaders appeared optimistic and promised further rounds of talks. Trump stressed that Zelenskyy and NATO would be part of the upcoming negotiations, while Putin stuck to his narrative of “Russia’s security.”

Flash floods in India and Pakistan kill over 280 people, dozens more remain missing

More than 280 people have died in flash floods in India and Pakistan, while dozens more remain missing in a Himalayan mountain village.

In Indian Kashmir, 60 deaths were reported in the village of Chositi, where a Hindu pilgrimage site was destroyed, while a rescue helicopter in Pakistan crashed, killing five people. 

Women banned from attending Taliban celebrations marking fourth anniversary of Afghanistan invasion

The Taliban marked the fourth anniversary of their seizure of power in Afghanistan with helicopters dropping flowers over Kabul, but women were excluded from the ceremonies.

Meanwhile, activists staged closed-door protests calling August 15 a “black day” in the history of Afghan women. The international community continues to condemn the regime for barring women from education, work, and public spaces.

Scientists film embryo implantation in the uterus for the first time

Scientists in Barcelona have captured for the first time in 3D video the moment a human embryo implants in the uterus.

The images showed the process was "surprisingly invasive", with the embryo piercing and fully integrating into the uterine tissue. The discovery is expected to help improve infertility treatments and provide more insight into the causes of miscarriage.
