Ukrainian drones struck one of Russia's largest oil refineries, causing explosions and a large fire, according to the Ukrainian military and Russian officials.

The attack targeted the Kirishi refinery, in the Leningrad region of northwestern Russia, and is part of a series of Ukrainian attacks on oil infrastructure in Russia, which Kiev says helps finance the Kremlin's occupation of Ukraine.

The refinery is operated by the giant Russian oil company, Surgutneftegas, and produces around 18 million tons of crude oil per year, making it one of the three largest in Russia by production.
