His life and work
Leka Bungo was born on February 28, 1944 in Vlora and remains one of the most prominent figures of Albanian art, with a rich career in theater, film and television. He completed his acting studies at the “Aleksandër Moisiu” school and then attended a directing course at the Higher Institute of Arts.
During his career, he worked as a director at the "Bylis" theater in Fier and later at the State Stage, where he brought plays with social themes and pronounced satirical notes. After the '90s, he founded the private theater "Rubairat" near the National Theater, an attempt to bring innovation to the Albanian stage, which however did not manage to survive for long.
In 2002, he immigrated to the United States of America, but continued to remain active in the art world. He is the author of several plays and film scripts, including “Pabesia” and “Pas fasadës”, and is remembered for the role of Bardhyl in the film “Një ?alja edhë ?e?e gajës” (A Boy and a Girl) (1990).
