This year's Met Gala, fashion's premier event, will take place today, Monday, May 5, but without Naomi Campbell. Although the model has graced the red carpet of the event many times, she will not be attending this year - and the reasons seem to be more personal than professional.
Her absence is related to a comment made by Anna Wintour, the "architect" of this event in September 2024, during a ceremony at "Harlem's Fashion Row" at New York Fashion Week.
"I'm very correct and I'm honored to be introducing someone who is often late," Anna said as she introduced Naomi.
As soon as she said this sentence, Anna left the stage. This statement was followed by a comment from the model, who said that she would not like to be introduced by Anna Wintour, although without mentioning her name.
"It wasn't my choice to be introduced by that other lady. I would have preferred someone else."
Sources for "The Sun" said that this comment cost the model her participation in the most important fashion event.
"You can't attack the queen of fashion and then expect to walk her red carpet. Anna neither forgets nor forgives. If she wants you to leave, you better leave yourself."
On the other hand, the model has not confirmed the exclusion from this event, but has stated that it was her choice not to participate. In a recent interview, she said that 2024 was her last time at the Met Gala, emphasizing that she feels anxiety and fatigue from such events. Naomi also added that she is "old enough" to deal with such organizations.
