First of all, let's say that yes, both techniques are very different, but that doesn't mean that one is better than the other. Choosing one of these techniques depends on each person's preferences and the result they want for their hair.
Balayage
Many celebrities and non-celebrities love it, and rightly so, as it gives a natural result. In balayage, the dye is applied directly to the hair. The final look is reminiscent of hair that has been naturally lightened by the sun, with the color becoming lighter at the ends. It does not require frequent maintenance, making it ideal for girls who do not want to constantly go to the hairdresser to dye their roots, as the hair grows out and the color looks “in harmony” with the base again.
Contrast with the root
This technique may bring to mind the blonde hair of the early 2000s, but it has evolved a lot since then. This is a hair coloring technique where the length is completely dyed and creates a contrast with the base color. This dye requires frequent visits to the hairdresser to refresh the color, as the contrast with the roots is not very pleasant to look at.
Before choosing the technique you want to do, it is a good idea to consider the result you want to achieve on your hair, as well as its texture and density. If your hair is thin and damaged, then balayage in a tone close to your natural hair is probably the best option. In case you want to lighten your hair color a lot, the second technique is preferable. It is also worth noting that balayage looks best on long or medium hair, while “uniform” coloring can be done on any possible length with impressive results.
