“Luli & Goni Lemes” is one of the comedies that combines pure humor with strong emotions. The film went through several changes during the early stages of production, initially starting as “Luli & Goni”. During a conversation with actor Margent Caushi, screenwriter Klaudia Brahimaj tells Anabel that she had a moment of inspiration when she accidentally saw Aurela Gaçe. Although known for music, Aurela has graduated to acting and at that moment the character of Lemes was born. She enthusiastically accepted the role after reading the script, which was then rewritten to fully integrate her character. Surprisingly, the story of the film remained the same, while Lemja became part of it so naturally, that it seems like she has been there from the beginning.
Movie history
In this film, Goni (Deivis Myslymi), a typical mom's boy, and Lemja (Aurela Gaçe), his authoritarian mother, are returning from emigration to find a traditional Albanian bride. However, their plans are ruined when Luli (Margent Caushi), a comical and naive character, joins them on their journey. Although Luli intends to help, he often makes the situation more difficult. Part of the cast is also Fjoralba Ponari, who will bring a pleasant surprise with her interpretation.
Klaudia shared with us one of the film's strongest points, which according to her is the cast of actors, who will surprise you with their performance and chemistry. Margent Caushi, known for his supporting roles that have always stood out, appears for the first time as the protagonist. Deivis Myslymi, successful in "Portokalli", brings a completely different interpretation to the film. Fjoralba Ponari appears in a new role for her, while Aurela Gaçe shows that she knows how to shine not only in music, but also in cinema.
The selection of actors was done based on their compatibility with the role and chemistry between them, avoiding the concept of selecting names simply to attract attention. Each actor tested himself before becoming part of the project and this brought a natural harmony to the screen.
Among others, the film has in its cast names such as Rita Lati, Parodistët e Vlorës, Irini Qirjako, Arjola Demiri, Mehdi Malkaj, Gëzim Rudi, Engjëll Hoxha and new actors who will appear on screen for the first time.
Unlike ordinary comedies, “Luli & Goni Lemes” is not just a movie with jokes. In addition to laughter, the film will make you feel excited, fall in love and reflect. Essentially, it puts into play several phenomena of Albanian society by conveying messages through the universal language of humor – which, after all, is the ability to laugh at yourself.
Filming a road trip comedy in the winter was a madness in itself, she says. The cold and unpredictable weather, limited light, and nights spent outside in freezing temperatures made it an unforgettable experience for the crew and actors. Their dedication was incredible – from braving the extreme temperatures to filming scenes while sick.
But despite the difficulties, the film holds fond memories. The ordinary people who joined in to sing with the actors, the villagers who stayed up past midnight to watch the filming, and the kindness of each location where it was shot, made this a special experience.
When is it coming out in cinemas?
The film "Luli & Goni Lemes" will be released in theaters in April 2025. A story that starts as a comedy, but ends up touching the hearts of the audience, will be one of the most anticipated premieres of the year.
