The parents of Irsa Muçollari - the 16-year-old who committed suicide a week ago - have shared some details about the motives that may have driven the teenager to commit the tragic act.
"It will haunt me for the rest of my life and in my head I only have [the question] 'Why?' Who upset me so much and no one understood? We loved him so much. I lived for him, I worked for him! To find the child when he came home from work in that condition... I gave him his life, I couldn't save him!" said the mother of the deceased, Mirela Muçollari.
"Recently, I noticed that her behavior had changed, she was a little more upset, but we never thought that the girl could go to this point. Because she was very kind, very good, very wise," said her father, Iliri.
They stated that a few days before she passed away, the girl had asked them to change classes.
"A week ago, he cried and told his mother to change classes because they weren't learning. He told me it was 6 hours, how am I going to put up with this every day? They're acting like crazy, he told me. They were laughing in vain, talking in vain, and I don't like it."
"They found some letters that were written in English about the bullying. In another letter it said 'should I tell my father or not?'" said Iliri.
In another interview for Opinion on Tv KLan, Irsa's mother said:
"They told us that she was in class and left with tears in her eyes. She left with tears in her eyes and no one called me on the phone, like her mother, to tell me that she had left. Monday put a lid on everything. While the girl left crying, she was very upset. It was the final push that led her to this action."
Irsa was a chess champion in elementary school, gifted in painting, talented in foreign languages, but not very social.
The Gjirokastra Prosecutor's Office continues investigations to shed light on the tragic event. Irsa was found hanged in her apartment. According to prosecutor's sources, it is suspected that the main reason for her decision to end her life was the constant bullying.
Irsa was a first-year student at the "Siri Shapllo" high school and was known as a quiet girl with good results. A key piece of evidence in the investigation is a letter that the deceased had written, expressing the deep pain and loneliness she felt:
"Oh God, why am I suffering like this? I am who I am and I ask my friends and comrades to respect me. But they make fun of me. I feel so lonely and drowning in my loneliness. I am not ashamed of my clothes. My parents have so many opportunities, my father who cares for me as much as my mother. But why did I want to be so isolated? Where can I complain? Who can I turn to? Who can I open my heart to? I don't trust anyone. Not even psychology, although I am open. Why did I want to suffer? Is this what life is?"
The event has shocked the city of Gjirokastra and has increased calls for more attention to the mental health of young people.
