Unpopular Opinion: Blonde color is not for everyone!

Unpopular Opinion: Blonde color is not for everyone!

Introducing the new column, Unpopular Opinion. We all have some opinions that, if we said them out loud, we feel like we'd end up in jail. Not because they're necessarily wrong, but because they're... different. They're not what society expects us to hear, they're not supported by the masses, and, above all, they're not appropriate to say at the dinner table with the family. These are the opinions we keep to ourselves, share only with friends, or simply bite our lips to keep them inside. Unpopular opinions are precisely those opinions that most people consider strange, daring, or just plain wrong. But not every opinion that goes outside the rules is necessarily wrong. So, it's time to say some not-so-popular truths.

"I don't know if it's ever happened to you, but I had a difficult moment as a friend. One day, my best friend showed up with blonde hair - not the kind of golden sunshine or honey blonde you see in shampoo commercials, but a brick-colored one that reminded me more of the neighborhood wall. And her smile? Confident, welcoming, as if she was challenging me to find the right words.

In those seconds, I felt the greatest burden of friendship on my shoulders: to be a good friend or a sincere friend? And I'll be honest, the fear of destroying her enthusiasm made me choose the first option. "Ooo how different you look!" - I said out loud, while inside I wanted to scream: "Why didn't you consult me ??before?!"

The truth is, her hair was speaking to me. It was asking for my help, it was like it was begging for mercy: “Tone us up, please!” But she wasn’t listening. She was proud, happy, convinced that she had made the right choice. What about me? I sat there, trying to convince myself that maybe it was just a matter of time before we got used to this new look.

Two weeks later, her hair had turned a shade between canary yellow and orange. And I found myself facing another challenge: How could I suggest a purple shampoo without offending her?

"Have you ever tried that lightening shampoo? I hear it works wonders for lightened hair!" was my gentlest attempt to help the situation.

She answered me confidently: "No, no, I like it this way, it's fixed the way I wanted it!"

At that moment I realized: it's not that I have a problem with blondes. When the color is done right, it can be an aesthetic masterpiece! I think there's something we all have to accept, not every girl is made to be blonde. Some look paler, some lose their natural shine, some... look like they made a hasty decision during an existential crisis.

I'm blonde myself and I think it suits me, since I've learned how to take care of it, but I never suggest it to others. And not to mention the torture that comes afterwards: bleach that burns the scalp, roots that pop out every two weeks, expensive maintenance, and the anxiety that one day, that dreamy blonde will turn into a strange, unidentifiable color.

So, if your friend ever asks you, "How about you let your hair down?", don't be like me. Don't just say, "Why not!" Take a deep breath and ask yourself the only question that matters: 'Are you willing to lie every day of your life?'" - written for Anabel by an honest blonde.
