When we're single, and especially if we've found ourselves in a series of bad first dates or situations/communications that never developed into anything more, it can be hard to be optimistic about finding love. However, don't lose hope, as there is a theory that says that our other half definitely exists.
So what is the invisible thread theory?
Invisible string theory is the notion that your significant other is connected to you through an invisible, metaphorical string.
The invisible thread theory is based on a belief in spirituality and fate. People who subscribe to the invisible thread theory imagine that a 'soul mate' is out there, waiting for them and they will meet them at the right place and time.
Expert Suzannah Weiss explains the idea:
"It seems as if there is a thread that connects one person to another so that wherever one person moves, the other travels with them, even without knowing it."
She adds that "invisible string theory (not to be confused with string theory in physics) is simply the idea that some people are connected in an intangible way that makes their meeting (and perhaps their reunion after a time apart) inevitable."
In Chinese mythology, the invisible thread theory is known as the red thread of fate. There are novels based on it, and some believe that a red thread represents true love, family, and human connection.
The theory implies that no matter what actions you take, you will end up with whoever you are destined to have in your arms.
"In a romantic context, this can mean that some people are bound to end up together, no matter what efforts they make to escape their fate. They may experience spontaneous encounters where they constantly bump into each other. Or they may separate only for their lives to intersect once again years later."
The invisible thread theory can provide hope for people who feel an unspoken connection to someone but are not with them at the moment. It can help them maintain the belief that if this person is truly meant for them, they will meet again one day.
