For all types of routines: The right order to apply skincare products

A skincare routine may seem easy, but sometimes we get the order of products wrong. The routine involves not only choosing the right products and formulations for your skin type, but also applying them properly.

This essential guide will help you understand the proper order to apply your skincare routine products.

Basic steps of a skin care routine

1. Cleaner

2. Moisturizer

3. Sunscreen with SPF 30+

Advanced morning skin care routine steps

1. Cleaner

2. Toner

3. Eye cream

4. Serum

5. Moisturizer

6. Sunscreen with SPF 30+

Some combinations are prohibited.

? Do not mix vitamin C serum with retinol serum – it can irritate the skin.

? Apply toner after washing to rebalance the skin's microbiome and pH.

? Remember, each product plays a special role.

Skin care routine steps in detail

The general rule for skin care is to apply the “lightest” product first and the “heaviest” last.

Your morning skincare routine should focus on prevention and protection throughout the day.

Your nighttime skincare routine should focus on cleansing and repairing your skin.

Step 1. Cleaner/Washer

Before using skincare products, make sure your face is clean – free of makeup and oil – so the products you put on.

We recommend starting with an oil-based cleanser or cleansing milk to properly remove foundation, SPF, and makeup. Follow with a water-based cleanser that removes makeup residue without damaging your skin.

Step 2: Toner

"Toner or serum first?" or "when should I use toner day or night?" are some frequently asked questions about this step in the facial routine.

Finish your cleanse by applying toner. It's used to remove every last trace of dirt, while it's also specifically designed to restore your skin's pH balance. So, toner, then serum.

Step 3: Eye care

Eye creams are specially formulated to treat the more delicate skin around the eyes.

Eye cream should be applied morning and evening as an essential part of your skin care routine.

Step 4: Serum

Serums are concentrated nutrients, moisturizers, and antioxidants that help your skin's health.

So, putting something like a serum before your moisturizer is a good idea.

Step 5: Moisturizer

Have you ever wondered: serum before or after moisturizer? Here's your answer.

First the serum, then the moisturizer.

Step 6: Sunscreen

Only in the morning

All skincare experts and dermatologists pledge their allegiance to one thing: SPF and its ability to improve your skin.

Sun protection should be a non-negotiable part of your daily skincare routine and should always be the last step of your morning skincare routine.
