Journalist Dasara Karaiskaj has publicly apologized after her highly criticized statement regarding one of the residents of "Big Brother VIP Albania 4", Jozefin Marku.
In an Instagram video, she stated that Jozi is gay and currently in a relationship with his partner outside the Big Brother house. Her statement was followed by a series of criticisms from people and a reaction from Jozi's family who denied Dasara's words.
After the huge uproar, Dasara published a message on her Instagram, apologizing for what she had said, emphasizing that she had been hasty with her action.
In her post, she wrote:
"I feel that it is necessary to make a clarification to calm all Albanians who were touched or outraged by my post. I was in a hurry, it is my biggest flaw. As a result, I was misunderstood. I am sorry that I did not express myself properly, that is, correctly. So that I would not be misunderstood."
She further explained that she did not want to offend anyone, acknowledging that she does not have the authority, and therefore the right, to publicly define anyone's sexual orientation:
"Anyone who knows me knows that when I make a mistake, I have no problem apologizing. So, I'm not stubborn, even though I may seem like one. So, I apologize publicly for not expressing myself properly, that is, correctly, so as not to be misunderstood. I didn't want to offend anyone, especially because I'm not competent about anyone's sexual orientation."
Karaiskaj also mentioned that she did not intend to speak with hate speech towards the LGBTQ+ community, when she herself has openly come out in their defense, explaining:
"I shouldn't have done it, but it never occurred to me that in a free world full of different communities, who have many rights, this kind of irritation would arise. I have been standing up for this community for 20 years, when no one was standing up for me."
"And lastly, I want to apologize to my family for all the insults they receive and have always received because of me. Insults that my family does not deserve to hear or read," she concluded her statement.
