Knitted sweaters occupy a large part of the winter wardrobe. We love them for their soft texture, delicate details and the wonderful warmth they give us in the colder months while offering us their luxurious comfort and timeless elegance. However, as with any clothing, it is important to clean and maintain them properly so that they can be at their best for a long time.
To help you give your knitted sweaters the care they deserve, we have selected some guiding tips for you.
Do not wash them often
Most of us over-wash our knitwear, which is why they wear out quickly. In fact, most of the time we can limit ourselves to doing a cleaning only when it is necessary. Wool is a natural fiber, so it cleans very well. A good solution is to wash the sweaters at the end of the season.
Avoid professional washing
Although care labels for knits and luxury fabrics often indicate dry cleaning, hand washing is always the best choice. They work best when washed because, like our hair, the fibers are restored and nourished by water. Wash with cold water and non-organic detergent. Avoid professional washing if possible, as spinning can cause shrinkage, and never forget: don't iron sweaters.
Lay it somewhere, don't hang it
To help the knitting keep its shape, do not hang it. When it dries, it shrinks from the weight of the water, so we advise you to lay it on a clean towel.
Invest in a grain remover
Grains often indicate that a sweater has been well-loved, but investing in a good grain remover can help keep it looking like new: any soft natural yarn will break down naturally. With such a device, your sweater can be restored to a good condition.
Beware of the unpleasant smell
To protect your sweaters from the annoying smell, put some lavender in your drawers and make sure your knitwear is clean when you put it in the wardrobe, as well as completely dry.
