If the first season of "Squid Game" left you wanting more of the series, you're in luck! Another round of Deadly Games is in store as Netflix recently announced the show's return for a second season.
Despite the fateful departures of many fan-favorite characters during the first season of Squid Game, creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk has already revealed which players will return, in addition to hinting at the plot.
"It took 12 years to bring the first season of 'Squid Game,' but it took 12 days for 'Squid Game' to become Netflix's most popular series ever," Hwang said in a statement.
He added, "As the writer, director and producer of Squid Game, a big shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show."

What will be the story of the second season of "Squid Game"?
Before the second season of "Squid Game" was confirmed, Hwang previously mentioned that the series could have ended with one more season, implying that it was "open-ended."
Although he didn't reveal specific details, he did confirm an important plot point that the second season will explore.
"Seong Gi-hun has become a completely new person by the end of the first season, so the second season will be about what the new Gi-hun will do and how things will unfold with this kind of new character," he revealed.
Is there a trailer for the second season of "Squid Game"?
In October 2024, Netflix released the first official trailer for season 2 which opens with Gi, who is back in his green 456 suit and surrounded by all the new players. They all make their way to the red light, green light arena, where he warns the crowd to stay completely still.
Who will be back for season 2 of "Squid Game"?
Despite most of the characters being killed off in season 1, Hwang noted to Deadline, "I'm going to try something to bring them back in season 2."
He teased that he might also bring back HoYeon Jung (who played Kang Sae-byeok in season 1).
When will the second season of "Squid Game" premiere?
The second season of "Squid Game" will premiere on December 26, 2024. Netflix revealed the release date for the second installment of the South Korean drama inspired by track and field during the Olympics on July 31.
Will there be a season 3 of "Squid Game"?
While "Squid Game" will come with a second season, creator and director Hwang also told The Korea Times in December 2021 that he was in talks with Netflix for a third season as well.
In July 2024, Netflix confirmed that the third and final season of "Squid Game" will be released in 2025.
