Revenge pornography is one of the most negative aspects of social networks that often results in a very difficult event for the people who fall prey to it. But, recently, a technological development called the "digital condom" seems to contribute to avoiding this phenomenon.
First, what is revenge pornography?
Revenge pornography is defined as the posting of sexual content without permission and consent, with the intent to humiliate, embarrass or blackmail the person featured in it. The German sexual health brand "BILLY BOY", in collaboration with the agency "Innocean Berlin", has invented what is called the "digital condom".
"Camdom", which comes from the union of the word camera and condom, is the application that helps young people not to fall prey to blackmail through videos recorded during the sexual act without their consent.
"The CAMDOM application is easy to use, just like a condom, and protects users from covert recording of photos, audio and video by locking the camera and microphone of all devices present in the bedroom", say the creators of this the application.
How is this app used?
First, you have to bring the handsets close to each other and you'll pull down on a virtual button to activate the app.
Immediately, the camera and microphone of your phone devices will be automatically locked, preventing unauthorized video recording. If someone tries to record secretly, an alarm will sound to warn others of the potential threat of unauthorized recording. The button must be pressed simultaneously by everyone involved to unlock the camera and microphone.
The "digital condom" for the digital generation was developed by Felipe Almida and can block video recording from multiple devices simultaneously.
"Smartphones have become an extension of our body and we store a lot of sensitive data on them," says Almida. "To protect you from recording content without permission, we have created the first app that can block the camera and your microphone simply by using Bluetooth," she explained.
The German condom brand "BILLY BOY" stated that it is committed to helping young people experience pleasure without fear of being filmed, as this application is the first technological invention that protects sexual life in the digital sphere.
