Kate Cassidy, the girlfriend of One Direction singer Liam Payne - who was with him just days before his tragic death - is experiencing deep pain from the loss. A friend of hers exclusively told The Post that Cassidy is feeling a lot of guilt over her decision to leave Payne alone in Argentina before he fell from the balcony to his death.
"She did what she had to do at that moment," Cassidy's friend said. "He had no idea what was going to happen. I can tell you that this decision will haunt him for the rest of his life."
"She feels bad. All the people around her tell her it's not her fault," the friend added. "You can't take care of a 30-year-old man every minute of the year. But she's not ready to accept that yet."
Two days before Payne died falling from the hotel's third-floor balcony, Cassidy posted a travel vlog on TikTok in which she explained that they had originally planned to stay just five days, but the trip had been extended into a two-week adventure.
Cassidy's friend told The Post that after she left Argentina, she tried to convince Payne to return home to Miami because she suspected he was going through a bad period. "She really tried, but he wasn't willing to listen," the friend said. "She will always be seen as 'guilty' of him leaving, but that's not what happened."
The friend clarified that Cassidy had planned some time away from home, but Payne wanted to extend the stay indefinitely. Although they had a great time on vacation, also documented on Snapchat. "She wasn't ready for this."
The influencer - who was first linked to the singer in October 2022 - just wanted to get back home. "She wanted to go back to bed and be with her dog," her friend explained. He even revealed that Cassidy had felt like she was in a similar "hostage" situation before her departure from Argentina.
"So she told him she wanted to leave after a week. He begged her to stay. She kept adding the days of her stay, one day, two days... And he just wanted her to stay," said the source.
The singer of "Teardrops" lost his life on October 16, after falling from the hotel balcony. He was 31 years old. Payne suffered multiple traumas, including a fracture, that caused internal and external bleeding. A portion of the autopsy showed he had cocaine, benzodiazepine and "pink cocaine" in his system at the time of his death, according to ABC News sources.
