Game of Thrones fans have managed to secure some incredible pieces of memorabilia from the famous series. Between October 10 and 12, Heritage Auctions held a sold-out auction, raising $21,115,718, with more than 4,500 bids from around the world, according to a release from the Dallas-based company.
Over 900 items from the series were for sale.
The auction house stated that the sale was completed after an almost 6-minute competition between bidders, which resulted in this seven-figure price.
"When it sold, the auction room erupted in applause," the announcement confirmed.
The company added that the throne was "painted plastic and decorated with stones to resemble a chair created by a dragon, made of 'the swords of the losers, a thousand of them, fused together like candles.' "
Other pieces of memorabilia that were sold include “the 'heroic' version of the Valyrian steel sword, Longclaw, which was given to Jon Snow by Lord Commander Jeor Mormont” - used by Kit Harington's character during the series - which sold for 400,000 dollars, making it the second most expensive item in the auction.
Jon Snow's outfit for his "Beyond the Wall" journey in season 7 also sold for $137,500, "in part because it included a light version of Longclaw," according to the release.
A "third, lighter version of this iconic sword" sold for $106,250, while Jon Snow's iconic outfit from the "Night's Watch" fetched $337,500, the auction house confirmed.
Other sales included "Jaime Lannister's black leather armor," which sold for $275,000, as well as "Arya Stark's boyish outfit, along with a simple version of the Needle sword," which sold for $150,000. Meanwhile, Daenerys Targaryen's "white and gray fur coat," sold for $156,250.
The company confirmed that this Game of Thrones auction is "the second largest entertainment auction ever, behind the Debbie Reynolds event in 2011, which raised $22.8 million," under the direction of Joe Maddalena.
"Game of Thrones", based on the series of science fiction novels by George RR Martin, aired for eight seasons from 2011 to 2019, bringing to the screen such well-known actors as Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau , Peter Dinklage, Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams.
