I, Robot director Alex Proyas slammed Elon Musk for the Cybercab, Tesla Bot and Robovan robots, saying: "Can I have my designs back please?".
The designs that Tesla advertised in a new campaign called "We, Robot" bore many similarities to the products featured in the 2004 dystopian film. On Thursday, Musk hosted an event at the Warner Bros. location in California. The company offered an exclusive preview of three products to be launched: the much-anticipated self-orienting robot, Cybercab; The autonomous Robovan and Optimus, an autonomous robotic humanoid that performs general tasks.
On social networks — including platform X — users said the three creations offer very similar designs from the famous I, Robot movie. Alex Proyas, the Australian filmmaker, also reacted by saying: "Hey Elon, can I have my designs back please?", implying that he thinks the billionaire has copied the designs.
Although Musk didn't respond, Tesla's event showed a clear reference from the movie, leaving people in a quandary. Some X users had positive thoughts on the event, while others mocked the new feeds. "Elon, this is fantastic!"; "I like that Tesla always brings such big changes"; "A super innovation!", said supporters of Tesla's idea.
Others said: "If it wasn't copied, it would be interesting"; "Ok, you might not bring the movie "I, Robot" to life; “Ok, totally copied. Goodbye Elon."
The enthusiasm was not reflected in the stock market either, where Tesla lost about 9% of profits, in contrast to the expectations that Tesla has on the innovations it brings.
