Billie Eilish has spoken openly about one of the most personal challenges of her life, revealing that throughout her career she has struggled to keep the tics caused by Tourette Syndrome under control .
In a conversation on the podcast " Good Hang " with Amy Poehler, the singer revealed that she often tries to "suppress" her tics, especially during interviews or in front of the cameras, to avoid distraction. However, she admitted that she also has tics in her knees, elbows and fingers, which become more pronounced precisely when she tries to hide them.
In fact, during the interview, Eilish confessed that even when she was speaking, she was doing exactly that, trying to control every tic that could be seen on camera.
“I'm doing my best to suppress any tics that are noticeable,” she said.
At one point, Amy Poehler thanked her for her honesty, admitting that the conversation helped her understand the syndrome better. Eilish took this idea further, explaining how challenging it is for people with Tourette's:
“Imagine having unexpected thoughts and your mouth being forced to say them out loud.”

According to her, this is a daily reality for many people with this syndrome, while adding that the ability to control tics is a "privilege" that not everyone has.
The singer revealed that she was diagnosed with Tourette syndrome at the age of 11, but for a long time she was hesitant to speak publicly about it. It was only in 2018 that she decided to be open, after videos began circulating online that focused on her tics during interviews, often misunderstood by the public.
Tourette syndrome is a neurodevelopmental disorder that usually appears in childhood and is characterized by motor and vocal tics that last for more than a year. Symptoms often vary in intensity over time and in many cases improve significantly in adulthood.
Billie Eilish's story comes as an important reminder to better understand the invisible challenges that many people face every day, even when from the outside everything seems under control.
