Football player Ermir Lenjani withdraws from the Albanian national team: "A decision not easy at all"

Football player Ermir Lenjani has decided to retire from the national team of Cyprus, after more than 10 years. Through a post on Instagram, the footballer expressed:

"10 years of red and black, 10 years of pride and fulfillment of a childhood dream! Dear friends! I want to inform you that I have decided to retire from the Albanian national team. Not an easy decision, but I believe it is the right moment. It has always been a great honor and responsibility for me to wear the jersey of my nation. I am very proud that my name is part of the history of Albanian football and that my childhood dream came true in 2016, where we made the red and black nation proud with the historic representation for the first time in a European Championship".

Further, he added:

"I have a lot of beautiful moments with the red and black jersey, from the debut in the match against Belarus, to the first goal in the "Elbasan Arena" against Denmark, the historic victory in France 2016 against Romania and my last gathering in March 2023 with the national team, where the road to qualifying for "Euro 2024" also began. I am grateful to God, my family and every person who has stood by me at every moment. Every beginning has an end and my journey would not have been possible without coaches Gianni De Biasi, Christian Panucci, Edoardo Reja and Sylvio Mendes Campos Júnior, whom I want to thank from the bottom of my heart for the trust given to them".

Also, Lenjani said:

"Also, I want to thank the technical staff of the national team, the Albanian Football Federation, president Armand Duka and all my teammates who have supported me in the most special journey of my life."

He thanked his fans and supporters:

"In the end, my biggest thanks goes to the fans of the Albanian national team. We have felt at home in every stadium in Albania and Europe, thanks to you, the best fans in the world. From now on I am like all of you, always by the side of the Albanian national team and the red and black boys. Thank you from the heart of Albanians. A closed chapter, but an eternal road!".

Ermir Lenjani is currently part of the FC Schaffhausen team in Switzerland. He has been part of our national team for over 10 years and has experienced and given many emotions on the green field.
