After finalizing her divorce from ex Joe Jonas, Sophie Turner has opened up about her daily battle of being a single mom. In an interview with The Sunday Times, the actress of "Game of Thrones" made a comparison between her real life and the role in the new series "Joan" where she is the protagonist and where she seems to convey a piece of her real life.
The film portrays a woman, as the leader of a criminal organization in the 80s, who is forced to leave an abusive relationship to take care of her 6-year-old daughter.
"If I hadn't been a mother, I don't know if I would have been able to bring the same energy and originality that I did to this role," she says, adding that her life as a single mother is a struggle daily.
"It's so beautiful to see a mother who really fights every day for her daughter. For me, it is very important for children to see how hard their parents work for them," continues the actress.
Turner also spoke about the fact that the filming of the film came at a difficult time in her life, where the divorce process from Joe Jones has had a significant impact.
"Out of desperation comes will and ambition," she added. "The series came at a time in my life where I had to be ambitious and have the will to go against all the forces and prejudices," Turner points out.
According to her, mothers are judged for everything they do outside of motherhood and parenting.
"Being a mom also comes with a lot of shame and judgment, especially when you're a single mom. You are judged for working hard, for staying away from your children for a long time, you are judged for staying at home and not working, in short for everything, and this approach must change because we are not only women and mothers, but also public figures," she concludes.
Meanwhile, Sophie is in a relationship with British aristocrat Peregrine Pearson, while Jonas has appeared very close to actress Laila Abdallah in Greece.
