A man from North Korea has confessed after 16 years that he killed his girlfriend and hid her body on the balcony. The man, who is now in his 50s, told police he hit his girlfriend with an object during a fight at their apartment in Geoje town.
He then placed her dead body in a suitcase and buried her under a brick and cement space on his balcony. The deceased woman was still being sought and her body was found after a maintenance worker discovered her while doing work in the building.
The body, which was decomposed in the suitcase, exactly matched the missing woman, fingerprint analysis revealed. The autopsy further revealed that she had been hit on the head with a hard object.
The man, who is identified simply by the initials "A" to preserve privacy, no longer lived in the same house where the body was found. He testified that he lived with the deceased woman for about 5 years in the Geoje apartment and then killed her after a fight that happened in October 2008.
He confessed that he put her body in a suitcase and hid it on the balcony of the third floor, and only one of his rooms led to this balcony. Since then, the apartment had been turned into a warehouse and no one lived there.
The deceased woman, who was in her 30s at the time, was not reported missing by her family for three years. After such a long time, the family members said that they had no contact with the girl and went to meet her. Mr. "A" was told that they had split up and that she had left town.
The police said that the investigation is continuing and that the man is expected to be charged with murder.
