The video on TikTok of a grandmother of four grandchildren caused people to "explode" in reactions about the attitude of this lady towards her four grandchildren. The reason why she doesn't buy them birthday presents is because according to her, they have enough of them and spending money on things that they have in abundance is not a normal approach.
"I'm very involved with my grandchildren," says Tammie Kelton, a 50-year-old grandmother in Ohio. "But I just don't want to buy them little plastic toys that will then be thrown away."
Kelton sets aside a sum of money for her grandchildren, ages 9, 6, 3 and 8 months. After making an initial investment of $100 per child, she adds $10 a week to each of them. She has contributed $529 so far for each grandchild and has done so by depositing the collected amounts into each child's retirement fund.

Kelton gave more details in a TikTok video, which has nearly 400,000 views.
"I don't buy my grandchildren presents, they get a dozen presents from everyone else," she said. “I swear, there are 50 presents on Christmas morning. They don't miss mine. It's all right…The gift from me will come when they're older and can pay for school, put a down payment on a house, or start their retirement plan.”
Some TikTok commenters said Kelton's behavior is cold and unacceptable.
"With this attitude, you only increase the hatred of your grandchildren towards you,"; “You celebrate Christmas and accept presents but refuse to give. That's scary narcissistic grandma.”
Others said that this grandmother's long-term plan helps her grandchildren and their parents in the future.
"This is exactly what my father did for my children. My sons are in their twenties now and they both made it through college very easily financially!”; “As a mother of five who receives massive amounts of unwanted gifts from grandparents for Christmas and birthdays, this is a dream come true! What an incredible gift.”; "I do the same, but I also give them a little gift."
When people asked him how he shows his love for them, Kelton explained in the video that it's the actions that should be appreciated, like picking them up from school, taking them to classes, buying them ice cream, etc.
