A few reasons why you might feel tired after a good night's sleep

Whether it's from your doctor or your parents, the advice to rest has always been the same: Make sure you're getting enough sleep! We've all had those nights when we stay up too late and feel the effects the next day. But what happens when you get enough sleep and still feel tired?

In fact, the quality of sleep is just as important as the quantity. Here are some possible reasons that can affect your tiredness, even after a full night's sleep.

1. Sleep disorders

If you feel sleepy during the day, it could be a sign of a sleep disorder. For example, sleep apnea, a condition that causes breathing to stop during sleep, often makes people feel constantly tired.

Other sleep disorders that cause daytime fatigue include:

Insomnia -  A sleep disorder where people have trouble sleeping. They may have trouble falling asleep, or staying asleep as long as they want.

Narcolepsy -  It causes significant daytime sleepiness and "sleep attacks". It is characterized by an overwhelming desire to sleep and poor sleep at night.

Hypersomnia - A sleep disorder in which the feeling of sleepiness never stops, even after sleeping through the night or taking several naps during the day.

2. Problems with the thyroid gland

In some cases, your fatigue may be a sign of problems with the thyroid gland. Specifically, a sluggish thyroid that doesn't produce enough hormones can slow metabolism and lead to constant fatigue.

3. Mental health problems

If you've ruled out sleep disorders and other sleep-related issues, you can consult a doctor to see if your fatigue is related to stress or a mental illness. Conditions such as anxiety or depression can make you feel tired during the day even if you've had enough sleep. Mood disorders such as bipolar disorder or premenstrual dysmorphic disorder can cause feelings of fatigue during the day.

4. Anemia

In some cases, the constant feeling of fatigue can be a sign of anemia. Even if you get eight hours of sleep, iron deficiency can cause a lack of energy if left untreated. In addition to fatigue, you will experience other symptoms associated with anemia. If you constantly feel tired even after a full sleep, it may be useful to consult a specialist to identify the reason and find the right solution.
