Avocado oil and olive oil are both light tasting and full of nutritional value whenever you use them in different dishes. But which one is healthier?
"Both types of oils have many health benefits," says nutritionist Julia Zumpano. Both oils are both rich in "healthy fats that reduce inflammation and protect the heart from various heart diseases."
But there are some big differences, especially when it comes to choosing how and when to cook with avocado oil and when with olive oil.
- Fat content
Nutritionally, avocado oil and olive oil are very similar. When it comes to calories and fat content per serving, "they're pretty much the same," according to the nutritionist.
-Other nutrients
In addition to healthy fats, avocado oil and olive oil have a host of other nutrients. They contain combinations of vitamins, antioxidants and other herbal ingredients. "In terms of antioxidants, both have very powerful antioxidants, but olive oil has slightly higher values," she adds.
- Taste
Avocado oil has a mild taste, unlike olive oil. But, depending on the variety of olives used, your olive oil can have a distinctive sweet and slightly spicy flavor.
So which oil should you use more?
Both avocado oil and olive oil are plant-based oils with a good mix of healthy fats, vitamins and antioxidants. Because it has a milder flavor, avocado oil is better for cooking with high heat. You can easily roast vegetables, pan fry meat, etc. Olive oil has a lighter taste, so save it for baking and frying and use it in low-heat cooking, for various stews, salads, etc.
