Sleeping well, meditating and having a peaceful life often seems like an impossible mission. In the hustle and bustle of people's daily lives, between work, problems and various commitments, anxiety often becomes our companion, but how can we control it?
Daily habits, even the food and products you consume have an impact on reducing anxiety, according to doctor Katherine Maslen. Changing your diet and adding more vegetables, fruits and healthy foods is just one good step for people suffering from anxiety. And if you want to turn this approach into a sustainable lifestyle, here are the foods and drinks you should avoid.
#1 Added sugar

Excess sugar is one of the most common causes of increased anxiety. "Excessive sugar consumption leads to changes in the neurobiological function of the brain, which alter the emotional states and behaviors of individuals," explains a 2019 study published in the journal Neuroscience and Behavioral Reviews.
#2 Caffeine

Caffeine can have a similar effect on the brain, especially when consumed in excess. A study published in "General Hospital Psychiatry" states that taking caffeine increases anxiety in adults and causes panic attacks in people suffering from this disorder.
#3 Processed foods

There are many reasons to avoid processed foods, especially due to the fact that they affect obesity, heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, etc. But, experts think that these types of foods have a great effect on people with mood disorders such as anxiety and depression. A study published in "Nutrients" found that higher consumption of processed foods is associated with increased chances of symptoms of anxiety and depression.
#4 Artificial sweeteners

"These sweeteners cause neuro-excitation, leading to symptoms such as hyperactivity, irritability, and anxiety," Dr. Maslen explains.
#5 Alcohol

Alcohol is among the most direct causes of anxiety and depression, so cutting back can help regain control of your mental health. Magnesium, zinc and B6 are all essential to produce serotonin, but drinking alcohol is enough to stop this process and things get out of control.
