Let's talk about one of those periods of life that women experience with fear, emotions and more: menopause! The good news is that there is a way to normalize the situation, through hormone therapy, food, etc. But what happens to sex during menopause? Couples and sex therapist Nan Wise lists the three most important things to keep in mind.
#1 Hormone therapy is the solution
Women can use hormone replacement therapy to relieve menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, anxiety, sensitivity, etc. But, this treatment allows them to improve their sexual life as well, affecting the comfort during the intimate act.
#2 Your sex life can get better
It is known that in this period of life, women have problems with hormones, ovaries and all this looks like a gloomy panorama. Does sex life change during menopause? Maybe. But desire is not everything. Sexuality, like almost everything else, is what Dr. Wise describes as something psychosocial. This means that your beliefs, your experiences, the culture you live in, all of these things ultimately determine your sexual experience, regardless of the stage of menopause.
#3 The brain starts producing more estrogen
"There are a lot of systems that activate and regulate your body during menopause," explains Wise. In fact, one such regulation is that the brain actually starts producing more estrogen receptors to compensate for the decline of your ovaries. So, your body will find the balance and you will occasionally want to enjoy the intimate act with your partner and feel better about yourself.
