Ismail Kadare is without question one of the giants of Albanian literature, so it is more than expected that his creativity is considered a national treasure and pride. Now, they will be stored in a special pavilion in the State Archives.
Through a post on social networks, Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that the family members of the late writer have submitted all the writings, sketches, manuscripts, initial drafts of Kadare's works, as well as unpublished works to the General Directorate of Archives.
"The collection of the literary activity of the great writer Ismail Kadare will be kept in a special pavilion of the General Directorate of Archives. The relatives of the great writer have handed over his entire literary collection, including manuscripts, sketches of ideas, manuscripts of unpublished works, as well as initial drafts of his works, for preservation, administration, restoration and digitization," he said.
Ismail Kadare passed away on July 1, 2024, at the age of 88.
Ismail Kadare was born in Gjirokastër, on January 28, 1936 and is an academic, politician and one of the greatest contemporary writers of Albanian literature. Although he is noted for his prose, his contribution is also great in poetry, drama and translations. Poetry was an early passion of his, as he has created verses since his youth and then experimented with prose, becoming one of the most popular Albanian prose writers.
Kadare's works are of particular importance, as they have been translated into about 45 different languages ??and he is the author who has duly introduced us to the world. He became a permanent member of the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences in 1996; has been honored with international awards, as well as nominated several times for the Nobel Prize.
