"Scarface" actor Ángel Salazar has passed away at the age of 68. He played the role of Chi Chi alongside Al Pacino as Tony Montana in the 1993 film. Salazar was also a comedian who has been on comedy specials on HBO.
His close friend, Ann Wingsong, said the actor died in his sleep while staying at a friend's house in Brooklyn, New York, USA, over the weekend. Salazar played the role of Chi Chi in the famous movie "Scarface". Chi Chi was the right-hand man of Al Pacino's main character, Tony Montana.
On Sunday, Ms Wingsong explained that his friend came in to check on him in the morning and found him dead in bed. The official cause of death has not yet been released, but Ms Wingsong said he had previously suffered from ongoing heart problems.
Salazar took on the role of Chi Chi early in his acting career. After the sad news, his many family members and fans shared tributes on social networks for the talented actor. Salazar began his acting career in 1979 when he landed his first role in the film Boulevard Nights.
Mr. Salazar also worked with Hollywood superstar Tom Hanks in the 1998 comedy-drama "Punchline" and then reunited with Al Pacino for 1993's "Carlito's Way."
Before his death, Salazar had not yet given up acting and was involved in filming a movie this year. The last film he was shooting was titled "The Brooklyn Premiere", directed by Eric Spade Rivas. In this film, which is expected to finish filming at the end of 2024, Salazar reunites on stage with the beloved actor Steven Bauer, known as Manolo from "Scarface".
His other roles as an actor include the films "Boulevard Nights", "Walk Proud", "Hot to Trot" and "Maniac Cop 2".
