5 ways to feel like you're on vacation even when you can't go

Let's be clear: We all want a well-deserved, relaxing break every now and then. The more often the better, to be honest. Being able to get away from the daily routine, explore new destinations and immerse yourself in another culture is a luxury we cannot refuse. But sometimes life has other plans. And this means that sometimes there are no opportunities to leave the house, not even for a few days.

Especially when you have a busy life, going on vacation can feel like the perfect escape. For some, it is the only way they can relax, as they are overwhelmed with work at home, starting from taking care of children and housework. But going on vacation means more expenses, a luxury that not everyone can afford.

Thankfully, even if you're not leaving the country or taking a few days off, there are ways to make it feel like you're taking a short break. So if you need some time to yourself, these tips can help you recreate that vacation feeling.

1. Play the role of a tourist

What is one of the main things we do when we visit a foreign country, an unknown destination? We search for the most important tourist attractions of the city and make a selection of the ones we want to visit. Surprisingly, it is rare to visit those tourist spots close to home.

The next time you want to take a day off, make a list of the must-sees in your city and plan a little road trip. Do as you would when you're abroad: take your camera, pack a picnic and don't forget your travel playlist.

2. Order food from outside

Another advantage of being on vacation is the fact that you don't have to cook for yourself. Of course, cooking can be a fascinating activity, but sometimes it's wonderful to relax your feet under the table and just enjoy a great meal. Can't go on vacation or to a restaurant? Ordering food can be the perfect solution and a way to relax. Decorate the table, light the candles and leave the dishes for the next day. If you were in a restaurant, you wouldn't wash the dishes afterwards, would you?

3. Turn your room into a "hotel room"

For us, one of the most beautiful things about a hotel is the feeling the room gives you. Sparkling sheets, a minibar and maybe even a small space to relax - immediately make us feel at ease. Something that can't be said about our messy room at home... Fortunately, there's something you can do about it. Instead of splurging on a vacation, maybe try investing in a home. And instead of turning your room into the messiest part of the house, try turning it into a space that "you like to hang out and relax." You don't need much: a few candles, warm lighting and a corner for coffee or tea: the beauty lies in the details.

4. ...or or - Do nothing

How often do you find yourself doing nothing for a whole day at home? Never, right? And how often do you do this on vacation? More often, we think. If you really don't have the budget to take a trip, order food, or anything like that, at least try to plan a day where you do nothing at all. Switch from bed to sofa and back, read a book, watch series and heat a pizza in the oven. Sometimes you have to disconnect completely to be able to recharge the batteries.

5. Enjoy a different evening at home

Turn ordinary evenings into something special. Plan a movie night with popcorn and your favorite drink. Set a special theme for the evening, like a movie marathon of a certain genre. This will bring a new and fun feeling - just like being on vacation.
