World's worst: UN urges Uganda to block anti-LQBTQ+ bill

The UN has called on Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to block an anti-LGBTQ+ bill that would provide for harsh punishments for homosexuality, including death and life imprisonment.
"The adoption of this discriminatory law - perhaps among the worst of its kind in the world - is a deeply disturbing development," Volker Turk, the UN high commissioner for human rights, said in a statement.
In the US, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said that if the law were to pass, Washington would consider imposing economic sanctions on Uganda.

Researchers at a Canadian university have made a discovery they hope will dramatically shorten the lifespan of thousands of "permanently toxic chemicals" lingering in clothing, household items and the environment.
The chemicals, also known as PFAS, are used for non-stick or stain-resistant surfaces, including clothing, cookware, firefighting foam, and more. But they are also extremely difficult to break down naturally, earning them the name "permanently toxic chemicals."
