If there is one word to sum up that typical laziness of system and organization at home, it is the word "tomorrow". So we put everything off until tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, and so on, until we never finish it. Procrastination then leads to a messy and cluttered state at home, which also increases stress.
The "boundary method" can work for you if you need defined spaces where things should be placed, a specific drawer, a single cabinet, a specific basket, etc.
What is this method?
"When your house is a mess, so is your mind," says professional organizer Annie Schmidt. "Your environment is directly related to how you feel and how productive you are," she adds.
The so-called border is anything that is used to contain different items or objects within it. So it could be a drawer for kitchen things that is overflowing with forks and other objects. It could be a wardrobe of clothes that haven't been worn in years. But by using furniture as a boundary through which to organize items, you can toss or donate things that have outlived their usefulness.
The best part about the border method is that you are not required to buy new tools to do it. Chances are you already have the limits, you just need to follow the instructions. You can put some things in a box, some clothes in a closet and remove those that are no longer useful.
How to follow the "boundary method"
If this is the part that usually bothers you, don't despair. Ask questions like: Does it fit? Is it damaged? Do I have too many? Do I get hired? Does it serve the purpose? "All of the answers to these questions can help you decide what to get rid of," says Schmidt.
Setting boundaries at home can be difficult at first. "But focus on the benefits of this method on how your space will look, not the downside of removing things!"
In no time, the limit method will help you live a smoother tomorrow, so there's no better time to try it than now.
