There are some celebrities in the world who are known for their deep and high voice characteristics, such as Miley Cyrus or the actor Morgan Freeman. But, unlike them, a recent study shows that people with a low voice are more attractive and more likely to stay in a long-term relationship.
In addition, men with low voices are seen as more serious and prestigious among other men, according to the team from Penn State University.
"A loud voice makes a person appear large and intimidating, something that not all partners in a relationship accept," says Professor David Puts.
Vocal communication is recognized as one of the most important human characteristics. While our accents and tones vary greatly, pitch is the most noticeable aspect of the voice, according to Puts.
"Understanding how pitch affects social perceptions can help us understand social relationships more broadly, how we evaluate others for their status, and how we choose our mates," he explained.
In a recent study, researchers selected two voice recordings of men and two of women, all repeating the same sentence. From these recordings, only 12 were selected, which were shown to 3,100 people in 22 countries around the world, who were asked to answer questions about which voice sounded the most attractive, flirtatious, scary and prestigious.
The results revealed that male and female participants from all cultures preferred lower voices for a long-term relationship.
Masculine traits such as a deep voice and beard in men were rated as highly socially prominent, while women who spoke in a low tone of voice were seen as more confident and self-confident in every aspect of their personality.
So, both of these approaches confirmed the fact that partners who maintain an acceptable tone of voice, especially low, are more likely to be long in a romance.
