Today (July 3, 2024), Ismail Kadare was escorted to his last residence with many honors, after he passed away 2 days ago at the age of 88. In the tribute in his honor, different personalities from the world of art, politics and other spheres came together, who commemorated the colossal writer.
Kadare's two daughters, Besiana and Gresa, gave a speech in honor of their father, saying that one of the ways we can pay tribute to the writer is by reading his works:
"Dear friends, thank you for coming today. We are all very touched by all this love, messages of condolence, many touching ceremonies. I will not make a speech. I imagine him saying one of his favorite phrases: "you'll leave us alone now, I don't want to". I imagine it, it's attached, it's like in a vortex of light. I imagine that he has climbed into the pantheon of geniuses of the world and looks at us. One way to pay tribute to him is to all read his works again. Thank you for coming today."
The other daughter, Gresa, said that her late father was special in everything:
"Dear friends, thank you for your presence. I wanted to say something small. Ismail has always been a father different from all the fathers of my friends. It was quite special as in all other things and obeyed only the laws of literature. He never got mad at me for neglecting housework, and so on, but he never spared me sarcasm about the authors I read. On the other hand, he was excited when I found a line for example from Noli's translation, which was a hit. I have probably adopted this philosophy, hand in hand, since childhood."
