Ismail Kadare, one of the most important writers of Albanian literature, passed away at the age of 88. The sad news was also confirmed by his publisher, Bujar Hudhri, for Euronews. The great writer suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest while staying at home.

Ismail Kadare was born in Gjirokastër, on January 28, 1936 and is an academic, politician and one of the greatest contemporary writers of Albanian literature. Although he is noted for his prose, his contribution is also great in poetry, drama and translations. Poetry was an early passion of his, as he has created verses since his youth and then experimented with prose, becoming one of the most popular Albanian prose writers.
Kadare's works are of particular importance, as they have been translated into about 45 different languages ??and he is the author who has duly introduced us to the world. He became a permanent member of the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences in 1996; has been honored with international awards, as well as nominated several times for the Nobel Prize.
Kadare has made an extraordinary contribution to Albanian literature, in several literary genres.
